1. Pro

The entry-level Pro is the most affordable trim, so it’s a good choice for shoppers on a budget. It comes standard with a TurboMax engine that produces 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, which gives you a towing capacity of up to 9,500 lbs when properly equipped. Speaking of configurations, the Pro trim gives you the most options when it comes to the cab and bed sizes you want to get on your truck. That’s because in addition to the crew cab and double cab, both of which have two rows of seating and seat six, it can also be had with a regular cab, which seats three on one row of seating. This gives you a way to cut back on costs if you don’t need to bring many passengers along for the ride. The Sierra 1500 also has three available bed sizes: Short is 5.8 ft long, Standard is 6.6 ft long, and Long is 8.2 ft long. While the Pro doesn’t have as many advanced features as higher trims, it still comes standard with plenty of useful tech. GMC Pro Safety comes standard and includes driver assistance features like forward collision alert, following distance indicator, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam headlights. The standard infotainment setup includes Bluetooth connectivity for up to two active devices and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, so you can access your apps through the vehicle’s interface, which includes a color touchscreen, a driver information center, and physical buttons and knobs. Push button start is included, too, so you don’t have to take your keys out of your pocket to get going.

2. SLE

Upgrade to the SLE trim, and you’ll get more creature comforts in the cabin, like a ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support to prevent backaches and cruise control to keep your ankle from getting sore on long drives. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel come in handy when you’re heading out to a job early on a chilly morning or burning the midnight oil on a long haul. A larger touchscreen display and driver information center make it easier to see camera feeds and enter commands. The Trailering Package comes standard at this level, so you’ll have a hitch, four-pin and seven-pin connectors, an automatic locking rear differential, and a hitch guidance system that uses a special camera angle and a centered guideline to help you line up with your trailer. For cargo that’s being carried in the bed instead of towed, you can take advantage of the GMC MultiPro Tailgate. This six-function tailgate gives you ways to support long cargo, create two-tiered storage, step more easily into the bed, and reach deeper into the bed without having to climb in at all.

3. Elevation

With the Elevation trim, you get everything on the SLE, plus some styling upgrades like body-color bumpers and gloss black wheels that match a gloss-black mesh insert in the grille. Beyond appearance, you’ll also get a standard high-capacity suspension package for a smoother ride. LED fog lamps and a rear window defogger help you stay aware of your surroundings in a wide variety of conditions.

4. SLT

If you’re looking for more capability, you’ll appreciate the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine that comes standard on the SLT and delivers up to 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. This brings the Sierra’s maximum towing capacity up to 11,200 lbs when properly equipped. It also pairs with a ten-speed automatic transmission that offers smoother operation than the standard eight-speed transmission. Interior upgrades include a 12-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and settings memory for the driver’s seat.

5. AT4

Leaving paved roads behind is easy with the rugged AT4 trim, which packs a standard 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel engine under the hood that produces up to 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque for the strength you need to conquer inclines, boulders, and other rough terrain. A two-inch factory lift lets you breeze over obstacles, and an off-road-tuned suspension with Rancho Monotube shocks keeps your ride smooth when the trail gets bumpy. A two-speed automatic transfer case with a locking rear differential helps you get free when a wheel loses traction, and underbody skid plates keep vital components protected.

6. AT4X

In the absolute toughest conditions, you can trust the AT4X to get you through in one piece. It has all of the equipment from the AT4, plus Multimatic DSSV dampers and front and rear e-locking differentials for improved off-road action. Other parts have been replaced with upgraded versions, like the AEV stamped-steel front bumper that’s capable of supporting a winch and the AEV stamped boron steel front approach skid plates that can stand up against formidable obstacles. You can also bring your music out into the wilderness in all its glory with a 12-speaker premium Bose audio setup in the cabin and a weatherproof sound system built into the tailgate.

7. Denali

Work hard and relax when you’re done in the luxurious Denali trim. The interior is fit for a king, with authentic open-pore wood trim with patterned aluminum accents and perforated leather seating surfaces that will make you feel right at home behind the wheel. Continuous dampening adaptive ride control keeps your ride extra smooth for even more comfort on the road. You can tell the world that you’ve reached the top with the signature Denali grille with a shiny chrome header.

8. Denali Ultimate

The Denali Ultimate takes things even further with an interior that boasts heated and ventilated front seats that have 16-way power-adjustments as well as a built-in massage feature. The exterior differentiates itself from the Denali with a dark Vader Chrome grille and a GMC logo that blends in with its surroundings instead of standing out in its usual red. On top of all that, it comes standard with a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a maximum towing capacity of up to 13,100 lbs.
