Base Model

Simply called the Ford Explorer, the entry-level trim is equipped with a turbo-four engine that gets 300 hp, combined with a 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. If you plan to hit the trails, you can upgrade any trim to include four-wheel drive. Like all Fords, the Explorer is packed with standard safety features, including rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, pedestrian detection, automatic headlights, and forward collision warning with forward automatic emergency braking.

XLT

The Explorer XLT comes with second-row captain’s chairs instead of a bench seat. Other upgrades include extra USB ports in the second row, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, proximity key entry, and heated front seats.

ST-Line

Upgrade to this trim for an array of added safety features and luxe cabin touches. The ST-Line comes with navigation, evasion and lane centering assist, and adaptive cruise control. You’ll also enjoy a premium Bang & Olufsen stereo with HD radio, smart windshield wipers, and ambient interior lighting.

Limited

With the Limited trim, you and your passengers will appreciate leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, and climate-controlled front seats. This trim also adds front parking sensors.

Timberline

This offroading trim boasts standard four-wheel drive and a distinct exterior style. The Timberline is trail-ready thanks to a limited-slip differential, shocks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.

ST

This sporty Explorer trim doesn’t have every single feature from the other models, but it does up the ante with a 400-hp twin-turbo V6. The Explorer ST features a large digital instrument cluster and sport-tuned suspension.

Platinum

For a distinctive interior, go with the Explorer Platinum. This trim has perforated leather seats with diamond accent stitching and embroidered Platinum badging. Feature upgrades include lighted scuff plates and intelligent access with push-button start. The exterior also has a look all its own with a satin aluminum finish grille, silver skid plates, satin aluminum roof rack side rails, and a molded black rear bumper step.
